Când folosesc -est și când folosesc "the most"?

Adaugi -est la adjectivele scurte, de obicei de o silabă (the tallest, the smallest), și pui "the most" înaintea adjectivelor lungi, de două sau mai multe silabe (the most beautiful, the most expensive). Articolul "the" apare în ambele cazuri.

De ce nu pot spune "She is tallest"?

Pentru că la superlativ engleza cere obligatoriu articolul "the". Forma corectă este "She is the tallest." În română omitem deseori articolul, dar în engleză el nu lipsește niciodată din superlativ.

Care sunt superlativele neregulate importante?

Cele mai frecvente sunt "the best" (de la good) și "the worst" (de la bad). Acestea nu primesc -est și nu se folosesc cu "the most", de exemplu "This is the best day."

De ce este greșit "the most tallest"?

Pentru că folosești ambele forme de superlativ în același timp. Alegi fie -est, fie "the most", niciodată pe amândouă: corect este "the tallest", nu "the most tallest".

Când vrei să spui care e cel mai... dintr-un grup, engleza folosește superlativul, întotdeauna cu articolul "the". La adjectivele scurte adaugi terminația -est: "He is the tallest in the class.", iar la cele lungi pui "the most" în față: "It's the most beautiful city." Atenție la formele neregulate, care nu urmează nicio regulă: "This is the best day." Spre deosebire de română, unde spunem "cel mai înalt" cu un cuvânt separat, în engleză "the" nu se omite niciodată și nu combini cele două forme (nu se spune "the most tallest").

Un superlativ indică vârful unui grup: cel mai mare, cel mai bun, cel mai important. În engleză există doar două moduri de a-l forma.

Adjectivele scurte primesc <t>-est</t>. Cele lungi rămân la fel și pun <t>the most</t> în față. Și ambele forme încep cu <t>the</t>, pentru că arăți spre un câștigător anume.

Începem cu cele scurte. <t>Tall</t> are o silabă, așa că doar adaugă <t>-est</t>, cu <t>the</t>. He is the tallest in the class.

Atenție la ortografie. Un adjectiv scurt terminat în <t>-y</t> devine <t>-i</t> înainte de <t>-est</t>. Today was the easiest test.
It's the most expensive phone.

Acum cele lungi. <t>Expensive</t> are trei silabe, așa că nu îl atingem: punem <t>the most</t> în față. It's the most expensive phone.
It's the most beautiful city.

Același tipar pentru orice adjectiv lung. <t>Beautiful</t> rămâne întreg, iar <t>the most</t> face treaba. It's the most beautiful city.
This is the best day.

Două adjective încalcă regulile și le vei folosi zilnic. <t>Good</t> devine <t>the best</t>, iar <t>bad</t> devine <t>the worst</t>. Învață-le pe de rost. This is the best day.

Folosește -est SAU 'the most', niciodată ambele.

Acum cele două capcane clasice. Nu combina niciodată formele. Se spune <t>the tallest</t>, nu <t>the most tallest</t>. Alege una, niciodată ambele.

✓ the most expensive lung → the most

Adjectivele lungi nu iau niciodată -est.

Și nu pune <t>-est</t> la un adjectiv lung. <t>Expensivest</t> nu există: cuvintele lungi iau întotdeauna <t>the most</t>.
