Kada se koristi -est, a kada the most?

Kratkim pridevima (jedan slog, a često i dvosložni na -y) dodaješ -est: tall -> the tallest, happy -> the happiest. Dužim pridevima (dva i više slogova) ne menjaš sam oblik, već ispred njih stavljaš the most: the most beautiful, the most expensive.

Da li je "the" obavezno u superlativu?

Da, gotovo uvek. Engleski superlativ skoro po pravilu ide uz "the": "He is the tallest in the class." Rečenica "She is tallest" zvuči nepotpuno govorniku engleskog. To je drugačije nego u srpskom, gde superlativ gradimo prefiksom naj- bez člana.

Koje su najčešće greške govornika srpskog?

Najčešće je izostavljanje "the" i mešanje dva oblika. Pogrešno je "the most tallest" (duplo poredjenje) i "the expensivest" (dug pridev sa -est). Treba reci "the tallest" i "the most expensive".

Postoje li nepravilni superlativi?

Da. Najvazniji su good -> the best ("This is the best day."), bad -> the worst, far -> the farthest/furthest. Njih ne gradiš po pravilu, nego pamtiš napamet.

Kada želiš da izdvojiš ono što je najveće, najbolje ili najvažnije u nekoj grupi, u engleskom koristiš superlativ. Na kratke prideve dodaješ nastavak -est uz obavezno "the": "He is the tallest in the class." Kod dužih prideva ne menjaš sam pridev, već ispred njega stavljaš "the most": "It's the most beautiful city." Neki pridevi su nepravilni i moraš ih zapamtiti, npr. "This is the best day." Za razliku od srpskog, gde superlativ gradimo prefiksom naj- (najviši, najlepši) i ne moramo da ponavljamo član, engleski skoro uvek traži "the", pa nemoj da kažeš "She is tallest" niti da mešaš oblike kao "the most tallest".

Дуги придеви никад не узимају -est.

И не стављај <t>-est</t> на дуги придев. <t>Expensivest</t> не постоји: дуге речи увек узимају <t>the most</t>.
